Base fee:
  • This fee covers the banquet dinner on Saturday night and this also includes access to the Command Post (CP) for all four days. CP amenities include: complimentary bar (over 21), sodas, coffee (regular/decaf), hot water for tea, and snacks. This DOES NOT cover hotel rooms or other costs not specifically identified.

RESERVATIONS:

   To call the hotel and reserve your room, please call: (479) 783-1000 and ask for the rate code 509 Paratrooper Reunion.

Room rates are $109 per day, which includes a fully cooked breakfast for two (2) and complimentary WiFi. Tax is currently 9.75%. Parking is complimentary.


DEADLINE:

   For our hotel block reservation is: May 13th, 2019. That's as long as the block is not filled by that time! After that date and once the blocks are filled, room rates will be set by the hotel.


TRANSPORTATION:

   The hotel operates a complimentary shuttle service to and from the airport.



PLANNED AGENDA:


The “Command Post” (CP) provides a full-sized meeting room to relax, visit, and just hang out with friends. It also includes complimentary snacks, beverages (e.g., sodas, regular/decaf coffee, hot water f/tea, etc.), and alcohol (21 and older)! The costs of these things are included in your registration fee. Please tip your volunteer bartender!

Ensure that you register/pay for additional attendees that want to access the CP or join the banquet dinner on Saturday.

WEDNESDAY – June 5th, Location: MEMPHIS/TULSA ROOM

  • CP room opens at 1:00 p.m. and closes at midnight.
  • Normal amenities will be available, along with 509th merchandise and reunion check-in and registration support.

THURSDAY – June 6th, Location: MEMPHIS/TULSA ROOM

  • This date marks the 75th Anniversary of D-Day!
  • CP room opens at 9:00 a.m. and closes at midnight.
  • 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., A complimentary lunch has been arranged for all registered guests! It will be hosted by Mr. Dewey Orrick, who owns/operates: Sooooielicious BBQ (competition BBQer). It will include all pulled pork brisket, chicken thighs and sides! Dewey is a huge supporter of military and law enforcement and does these things at cost. Also, he produces his own selection of BBQ sauce at a nominal fee, so consider taking some home!     • LOCATION: Harry's Downtown, 509 Garrison Ave, Fort Smith, AR 72901 (within easy walking distance of hotel)
    • Hotel Shuttle will be available in front of hotel to transport 509ther’s to the lunch venue, beginning at 11:15 a.m.! The hotel shuttle will provide transportation back to hotel beginning at 1 p.m.!
    • CP room may be closed during this off-site lunch event.
  • 3:00 - 4:00 p.m., Join us for a tribute to the 75th Anniversary of D-Day!

      • LOCATION: The CP (Memphis/Tulsa room)

FRIDAY – June 7th, Location: MEMPHIS/TULSA ROOM

  • CP room opens at 9:00 a.m. and closes at midnight.
  • 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., Another complimentary lunch will be provided on this day for all registered guests! This will be a true Southern “Mudbug Boil” (Crawfish Boil), hosted and paid for by one of our own 509th DMoR: Mr. Eric “Skid” Luneau! It will include spicy boiled crawfish, sausage, corn, potatoes, etc. If you have a shellfish (or other) allergy, make sure to let us know in advance! He is prepared to boil a separate pot without the shellfish.
    • LOCATION: North Rotunda of the Fort Smith Convention Center (attached to our hotel). **SEE PAGE 9 for a map view! (link to PDF below)
    • CP room may be closed during this lunch event.
  • We will also have a bean bag toss tournament around 4:30 p.m. at the hotel. Sign your team up and pay in advance with this registration form or on-site. It’s only $20 a team, (2 person team).

SATURDAY – June 8th, Location: MEMPHIS/TULSA ROOM

(large dining area)

  • CP room opens at 9:00 a.m. and closes at Noon/12:00 p.m., to allow for the board meeting.
  • Membership board meeting begins at Noon/12:00 p.m. and ends at 2:00 p.m.  Normal CP amenities and bar will be closed during the board meeting.
  • CP room will re-open following the board meeting and closes at 3:00 p.m., to prepare the room for the dinner banquet.
  • Dinner banquet reception will begin at 5:45 pm, preferred dress: “business casual” attire. There will be a cash bar (hotel operated) until 8:30 p.m. (during dinner).
  • At 6:45 the Posting of Colors will be conducted.
  • DINNER MENU:
    • Strawberry Spinach Salad: spinach, strawberries, bacon, shaved red onion, blue cheese & raspberry vinaigrette. Served with fresh baked rolls and butter.
    • Surf N Turf: filet mignon, shrimp, garlic herb butter, baked potato, fresh squash, zucchini and carrots.
    • Rich Chocolate Cake
    • Includes: freshly brewed coffee, tea and fresh ice water. Other beverages available, at a fee.
  • Our CP bar will re-open at 8:30 p.m., and a DJ will be onsite for dancing after dinner.
  • After dinner we will conduct the knife and rifle raffles, a 50/50 raffle, and auction all the donated items!  We welcome auction items – If you have any auction items to donate, please bring them or contact: abn509thassoc@yahoo.com for instructions on where to send items.


Local Attractions:

  • Fort Smith National Historic Site (Established in 1817 by French fur trappers and pioneers. Part of the "Trail of Tears" and also manned during the Civil War.)
  • Judge Parker Museum (Fort Smith is home to the famed "Hanging Judge" - Isaac Parker, portrayed in the John Wayne movie 'True Grit'. The first black deputy U.S. Marshal west of the Mississippi, Bass Reeves, also worked for Judge Parker.)
  • Fort Smith National Cemetery (Among many incredible heroes, BG William O. Darby [Darby's Rangers] is buried here, as Fort Smith was his birth/hometown.)
  • Gen. William O. Darby Monument (Bronze statue located in Cisterna Plaza, downtown Fort Smith)
  • Miss Laura's Social Club (The only former bordello on the National Register of Historic Places.)
  • The Park at West End (Complete with a Ferris Wheel from the 1935 World's Fair in San Diego.)
  • Chaffee Barbershop Museum (Dedicated to the memory of Elvis Presley receiving his first military hair cut at Ft. Chaffee)
  • Chaffee Crossing Historic District (Established during WWII and home to the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC) and 1-509th Airborne Infantry OPFOR from 1987-1993.)
